Principles of Teaching and Learning
I believe that the purpose of education is to nurture every child to develop into a healthy, skilled and engaged global citizen, capable of meeting the complex challenges of our world.
I strive to achieve this goal by facilitating learning that integrates the values and principles embedded in;
I use a variety of research-based learning frameworks as reference points for designing innovative learning environments and opportunities for my students. These include, but are not limited to:

- the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action in Education and
- the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES
Children learn best when they participate in activities that are perceived to be useful in real life and are culturally relevant. As an Educator, I will make classroom activities more meaningful by situating them in an authentic context. go to evidence in my teaching practice... RELATING NEW INFORMATION TO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
New knowledge is constructed on the basis of what is already understood and believed. As an Educator, I pay close attention to the prior knowledge of the learners and use this knowledge as the starting point for instruction. TAKING TIME TO PRACTICE
Learning is a complex cognitive activity that cannot be rushed. It requires considerable time and periods of practice to start building expertise in an area. As an Educator, I help learners engage in daily deliberate practice across all areas of the BC curriculum. |
